Chicago School
Between 2014 and 2017, I taught a restoration course to students at the Chicago School of Violin Making. My curriculum covered the following topics:
- setup of new violins, violas, and cellos
- cutting and fitting new bridges, soundposts, and fingerboards
- neck sets, reshaping, and staining
- varnish retouching
- crack repair via multiple techniques
- violin neck grafts
- casts and molds (plaster, dental compound, and polyester resin)
- fitting soundpost patches
- bushing pegs (solid and shaving)
- instrument cleaning, care, and maintenance
